It’s taken me a while to find the words to write about Susan Jacks.

There are some people in this world who create a presence of such great beauty, strength and love that we never want to leave their side. Whether for one minute, one year or one lifetime we are somehow better for having met them.

That’s what it was like to be around Susan Jacks

Susan was writing songs for a Nashville publisher when I met her. Married to ex-Canadian Football League star Ted Dushinski and raising their son was foremost in her life. All the while she lived and breathed music.

Every moment I remember with Susan was filled with laughter, songs, and a voice that poured over you like silk. She could sing just about anything and did. She also made the first and best perogies I ever tasted.

There was a large group of us that seemed to gravitate toward one another during those days in the Music City. It was exciting, intensely creative, and pure magic.

I met Susan through publisher Stephanie Brown’s writer’s night Circle of Friends along with songwriter with Roy Hurd. As co-writers, she often brought so much laughter into our writing sessions that we sometimes sat breathless with tears…
